We just finished Danny, Champion of the World. Captain Lancaster's hitting Danny's hand with a cane in school prompted this. Dahl books are filled with nightmare-worthy villains like Mrs. Trunchbull, mean giants, two terrible aunts, or the Grand High Witch to name a few. Thankfully they still want to read the books in their waking hours and each of Dahl's books has a reassuringly happy ending.
